As I drove through Skid Row one Saturday morning, I saw this woman with striking red shoes. I stopped to ask her if I could take some pictures, and she was very pleased. We were on Crocker near 4th street, and i noticed that she was meticulously gathering bits of trash and other objects from the street, and setting them on fire in a little charcoal grill she had on the sidewalk. She burned the mattress she is pictured laying on the night before.

Bridget searches the dumpsters on Skid Row for anything she can gather to recycle. She spends a lot of time in dumpsters,sifting through layers of putrid garbage for anything she can salvage.

bridget stands in front of her home, a tent located on gladys avenue. she lives alone and has managed for many years on one of the most dangerous and chaotic streets on skid row. drug sales, trafficking and daily violence are a part of her existence.here she is pictured after handwashing her clothing in a bucket.
